About Us

Actually, it’s not about us. It’s about you. Matilda Education was founded in 2019 with one goal: to help make your teaching day a great day. It's as simple as that.

Our authors are the best voices in Australian education; our job is to amplify those voices so they can reach beyond their own classroom walls and into every classroom in Australia. Matilda authors are obsessive about creating resources that make a measurable difference for you and your students.

And now just a little about us: we are wholly Australian owned and managed (you might be surprised to know, that’s uncommon in this industry). Matilda Education was founded by a team of local education publishing professionals. Nobody knows your context better than an Australian publishing team working with Australian teachers as authors.

We will fiercely defend your right to have locally produced, progressive, research-based and meaningfully differentiated print and digital content in your classroom. We know you are time poor, so we embrace the little things that make a big difference: no guff, no padding, just excellent content, pedagogy and assessment.

Our office is in Melbourne on the unceded lands of the Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri peoples and we acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land. At Matilda we use our content to honour the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Thank you so much for visiting us here. We cannot wait to get to know you.

Meet the team

Hi I’m Andrew, the Finance and Operations Director at Matilda Education and I’m really excited to be part of Australia’s newest independent educational publisher! I’ve been working in the Australian publishing industry for over ten years and during that time I have gained experience across both educational and trade publishing. I’m currently working hard behind the scenes to ensure that Matilda can rise to the challenge of helping teachers to teach and students to learn. As a father of very energetic, twin boys, I have a vested interest in ensuring that our education system in Australia is up-to-scratch and achieving results. Free time is somewhat of a luxury, so when I do manage to find a spare moment I enjoy going for a run or taking time out to explore new cafes and places.

Hi, I'm Kate, Senior Editor at Matilda. I'm an unashamed word nerd who loves to take content and make it sing!
But it's about more than words for me – I'm passionate about using visuals, design features and innovative pedagogy to take our products to the next level. I want to make unengaged learners interested, and interested learners inspired.
I have worked in Educational Publishing for 20 years and have two school-aged children, so I have first-hand knowledge of the need for engaging educational resources. When I'm not working, I'm an exercise nut who is planning her next 10k.

Hi. My name is Emily and I’m the Flexibooks Product Manager for Matilda Education. Not sure what Flexibooks are? They’re Matilda Education's custom publishing range of workbooks. I’ve worked with Flexibooks for 10 years across all areas of the product: editorial, production, sales and marketing. It’s been great watching it grow into the established product it is today. I feel very privileged to still be working with Flexibooks as part of our small team at Matilda. Outside of work I’m a mum of two young kids and a step-mum to another two. We have a very noisy house, but a very happy one. As a family we love going on camping trips and are avid explorers. I love dancing, spending time with family, and (sometimes) trashy TV. I'm looking forward to some exciting times ahead with Matilda and can't wait to get to know you!

Hi I’m Fiona, the Senior Account Manager for NSW, ACT & QLD. I have worked in the publishing industry for over 14 years responding to the educational resource needs of teachers and students in both primary and secondary schools. As a mum of four young adults - even surviving those fun toddler and teenage years - I am very passionate about supporting the education of all our young minds. When I’m not working, I love spending time on our boat watching the world go by, whilst reading a book and sipping a glass of rosé. Another passion of mine is travelling with the family, especially sharing those priceless ‘where are we now’ moments. I am so excited to be a part of this new, dynamic, Australian-owned company supporting Australian teachers and students, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I’m Greg and, having worked in educational publishing since 1983, I am definitely the “senior”
member of the Matilda team! I have learnt some things over the years, in big organisations and small,
but certainly the most valuable lesson that I can apply at Matilda is in the area of organisation and
structure. The guiding principle has to be to keep things simple, efficient and focused on the people we
serve. But sometimes that’s harder to achieve than it sounds. It all comes down to having a great
team who are fully committed to the overriding business objective, which is to help teachers.

Over the past 30 plus years, everything in education has changed – and yet nothing has changed.
Teachers are still by far the most valuable resource we have in Australian schools, and our goal at
Matilda is to give the best teachers in Australia the chance to take their skills into classrooms around the
country and around the world. It is a privilege, and a lot of fun, to be working with the young, brilliant
and passionate team at Matilda. Our single objective is to help teachers teach. Let us know how we are doing.

Hi, I'm Jade, the Customer and Sales Support Manager here at Matilda Education. Working within our Sales and Marketing arms, no two days are the same and I love being a part of this passionate and close-knit local Australian business that is committed to innovation and engaging content. Outside of work, I'm an accredited Mental Health First Aider and greatly enjoy volunteering with a women's homelessness/ domestic violence charity. I love nothing more than spending hours on the weekend wandering the aisles of bookstores, tending to my many plant babies and am a firm believer in the healing powers of a good cup of tea!

Hi I’m Katrina, the Sales Manager of Southern States at Matilda Education. I have 15 years of sales experience in education and I undoubtedly have the best role here at Matilda. Not convinced? Let me sell it to you: I love a chat and I am lucky enough to be on the road, working with teachers every single day. My job is to understand your school community needs and then feed your comments back to our awesome team. I am the conduit between some amazing educators, and I get to see how our resources impact students firsthand. I have three daughters in their early twenties, who certainly keep me on my toes and have helped me become the problem solver that I am today. When I’m not working, you might find me making candles and soaps, cosying up with my two dogs (a.k.a. my babies) and falling in love with Jamie Fraser on Outlander. I can’t wait to show you our incredible resources that this team is soon to publish.

Hello. My name is Melinda and I am Managing Director at Matilda Education. After 25 years in the educational publishing industry I’m thrilled to be part of the super-talented team at Australia’s newest independent educational publishing house. What’s exciting to me is the opportunity to produce effective (and beautiful) resources that make a difference to how teachers teach and how kids learn. I believe very passionately that all students have a learning entitlement and that we, as publishers, have a responsibility to create products that help teachers and kids be their best. At Matilda we get to do just that by working with Australia’s finest educators and bringing their voices to your classrooms. We are small, fiercely local and totally focused on bringing you the best print and digital content that we can.

Hello. I’m Olive and I am the Publishing Director at Matilda Education. After many years of working for multinational publishers here and in the US, it is invigorating to be part of a nimble, independent, Australian educational publisher. Our team is unified around the goal of supporting the important work of teachers in developing informed, inquisitive, and empathetic global citizens. We partner with exceptional educators to develop accessible resources that respect and elevate teacher voice and integrate best-practice implementation strategies. I look forward to spending as much time as possible in schools to better understand how Matilda can make every lesson a good lesson.

Hello, my name is Hannah. I am the Production, Design and Editorial Workflow Manager. Combining my love of books and organising things, I work behind the scenes to help ensure Matilda’s products move from concepts to fantastic content as quickly as possible. I have worked in educational publishing for over 15 years across Primary, Secondary and Tertiary publications, and it’s great to have the opportunity to apply those skills at a local, nimble and forward-thinking publisher. I’ve got two school aged children, so I am connected to what we do at Matilda both as a parent and a professional.

Hello! My name is Naomi and I’m the Development Editor at Matilda Education. I have worked in the Australian publishing industry for over 20 years, both inhouse and as a freelance editor and project manager. I’m thrilled to work for an independent, home-grown publishing house that is filled with exceptional publishing professionals producing outstanding products. As a mother of two school-aged daughters, I see first-hand how critical good resources are to learning.

Hi, I’m Kim and I’m part of the sales team here at Matilda Education. I’ve been working with schools and teachers since the early 2000’s and I absolutely love it. It is such a passionate industry to work in and no two days are the same. My job entails visiting schools and talking with teachers about their curriculum needs and hopefully finding a Matilda resource that supports both the teacher and their students. Outside of work I enjoy spending time walking, gardening, reading, and attending to my dog's every need.

Hello. I’m Gillian, the Permissions Manager at Matilda Education. My role involves obtaining permissions from third parties for use in Matilda’s products, including tracking down prospective photographs and images. With a keen interest in copyright law, and a passion for educational publishing, I’ve worked in this area for over 25 years. I am thrilled to be working with the team of highly experienced professionals at Matilda.

Hello, my name is Paul and I am Matilda’s typesetter. Educational publishing is my vocational calling, and I’ve been a part of it since 1998. Now I belong to Matilda’s dedicated team. I feel lucky to be here! My job involves laying out text and graphics to make our books communicate well and to be useable and inviting. I also prepare books for print and make the tea.

Hello, my name is Narelle and I am the Sales Manager for Matilda for South/West NSW and the ACT. I have worked in education for more than 25 years, initially as a Secondary teacher before making the move to sales in educational publishing. I am passionate about education and books and am thrilled to be able to discuss both with teachers and help provide resources that deliver exceptional learning outcomes. When I am not at work, I love finding great new food experiences, spending time with my beloved family and pooch.
